It's easy to identify Shippers Warehouse Group as a company with deep Texas roots. Some people say you can tell by the way we talk, or by the hats and boots we sometimes wear. But there's more to it than that.
Years ago, Gene Autry got famous for his singing, and acting, and generally embodying the ideal of a cowboy. Some of his young fans asked him what it meant to be a cowboy, and after giving it some thought he came up with the famous Cowboy Code. We think it's worth taking another look at. In fact, we're proud to say it's the way we do business.
- The Cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage. Actually, our day-to-day business almost never involves shooting or hitting. But the point is, you fight fair. We want to get your business, and keep it, by doing a better job than anyone else. Plain and simple, fair and square.
- He must never go back on his word or a trust confided in him.
- No double-crossing.
- No making up excuses.
- No leaving someone high and dry, or giving up because the going gets too hard. We build long-term customer relationships by listening to, understanding and exceeding our customers' needs.
- He must always tell the truth.
- We'll shoot straight with you. We'll tell you what we're gonna do, then we'll do it. If we mess up, we'll tell you that, too. Then we'll fix it.
- He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals. Being mean is nothing to be proud of. Everyone has something to offer, and it's a wise man who realizes that.
- He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.
- We all like to have our own space, with a little elbow room, where we can be ourselves. The least we can do is let someone else have theirs, too. We treat others with respect, and provide an environment where all can succeed based on their abilities.
- He must help people in distress. We respond quickly and eagerly when a customer has a request—no matter what it is. We're continually finding ways to add value to a customer's operations. And if you ever have flat tire in our parking lot, we'll be the first ones on the jack.
- He must be a good worker. A day's work for a day's pay. Sweat and dirt will wash off your skin, but laziness sticks in your bones. We're committed to quality, hard work, fair compensation, innovation, and teamwork.
- He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits. Well, we're working on that speech part, but a person ought to always be polite, presentable, and pleasant to be around. We promise never to embarrass our customers or make them sorry they hired us.
- He must respect women, parents and his nation's laws. The biggest man is the one who'll stand up and do the right thing just because it's the right thing. Besides, no matter how old you get, there's always someone who can tell you what to do. We promise to conduct business with utmost integrity and high character.
- The Cowboy is a patriot. Our love of our country is not blind allegiance, but a deep understanding that freedom, hope and opportunity are priceless gifts that not everyone has.
